Barbara Lee supports City of Madera’s ceasefire resolution

OAKLAND, CA – Today, congresswoman and leading progressive candidate for U.S. Senate Barbara Lee, shared her strong support for the ceasefire resolution adopted by the City of Madera, a predominantly Latino, farmworking community in central California. In the resolution, the majority-Latino City Council issued a call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, echoing the same position as Lee. She remains the only candidate in California’s Senate race calling for an unconditional, permanent ceasefire.

“A call for an immediate, permanent ceasefire is a demonstration of a commitment to peace, security, and dignity for all,” said Congresswoman Lee. “The City of Madera speaks volumes for the values of their community in supporting an end to the humanitarian disaster in Gaza. I will be a champion for our shared commitment to peace and security — paz y seguridad — in the Senate.”

The statement comes before Lee’s participation in a Senate candidate forum hosted by Spanish-language broadcast station Univision, focused on issues of importance to the Latino community. The City’s resolution emphasizes California’s collective focus on the violence in Gaza, with Latino communities joining the call for peace. At the forum, Lee intends to speak to her leadership on this issue and her consistent record of advocacy for underrepresented communities.
