Barbara Lee endorsed by statewide McClatchy editorial board, “focused on issues affecting working people”
The Editorial Board, representing papers across the Golden State, voice strong support for Congresswoman Lee’s record of perseverance and delivering for disenfranchised communities
OAKLAND, CA — Today, the McClatchy Editorial Board announced a decisive endorsement for Congresswoman Barbara Lee as a tenacious, accomplished advocate most fit to be the next U.S. Senator from California. The Editorial Board, comprised of papers throughout California including the Sacramento Bee, Fresno Bee, Modesto Bee, Merced Sun-Star and The Tribune in San Luis Obispo, demonstrates Lee’s wide-ranging support.
The Editorial Board notes that Congresswoman Lee’s progressive stances — from championing Medicare for All to being the first candidate to call for a ceasefire in Gaza — shows her “independence” and “her perseverance in fighting for the underdog.” They claim her agenda is principled, and speaks for communities often left without a voice:
“As an African-American woman, Lee has battled racism and discrimination. She’s lived through an abusive marriage, homelessness, and, as a single mother, she raised two children while attending college. She eventually earned a master’s degree in social work from UC Berkeley. Those experiences have informed her politics, leading her to advocate for marginalized people who are not always a priority in the halls of Congress.”
