OAKLAND, CA — Congresswoman and leading progressive candidate for U.S. Senate Barbara Lee today released the following statement regarding the entrance of Trump-supporting Republican Steve Garvey into the race. 

STATEMENT OF CONGRESSWOMAN BARBARA LEE

A pro-Trump, anti-choice extremist is the wrong person to represent a progressive state like California in the U.S. Senate. At a time when our reproductive rights are under attack and our democracy is being undermined by Trump and his MAGA extremist supporters in Congress and across the country, we need a Senator who will fight for economic, racial, and climate justice and who has the experience needed to be an effective progressive leader in the Senate. 

I am running for the U.S. Senate to protect our freedoms and to fight for the people against the toxic influences of corruption and greed in this country. While I welcome debates and a robust democratic process, the idea that Steve Garvey defends the January 6 insurrection is incredibly troubling. I look forward to the race ahead so voters can learn more about who each of the candidates on the ballot truly are.
