Congresswoman Barbara Lee to celebrate Independence Day with Central Valley families during week-long tour

Congresswoman Will Visit Modesto, Bakersfield, Fresno and Other Central Valley Cities During Holiday Week Tour 

With the Congress in recess for the July 4 holiday, Congresswoman Barbara Lee will spend the week ahead meeting with families and supporters throughout the Central Valley and Southern California to discuss her historic campaign for U.S. Senate.

MONDAY, JULY 3

After a series of “meet and greet” events throughout the Central Valley on Monday, Congresswoman Lee will host a media-friendly town hall in Merced on Monday, July 3 at 1:30 pm at the Merced Multicultural Arts Center.

TUESDAY, JULY 4

Congresswoman Lee will join friends in Fresno on the Fourth of July at a series of events and celebrations including a backyard bar-b-que and a meeting with local African-American leaders. Then, Congresswoman Lee will join Democratic Party leaders at 11:30 am at the Fresno Democratic Party Headquarters for a discussion about the Congresswoman’s campaign for U.S. Senate.

WEDNESDAY, JULY 5

Congresswoman Lee will visit the Allensworth Historic Town Site – the first town in California established exclusively by African Americans – in the morning on July 5. Congresswoman Lee will tour the historic site and will be available to discuss the significance of African American history in California, as well her historic campaign for United States Senate.

Congresswoman Lee will next visit Delano, where she will join Andres Chavez – grandson of legendary organizer Cesar Chavez at 1 pm – to tour “The Forty Acres”. In 1966, the Forty Acres site in Delano became the headquarters of the United Farm Workers and the location played a key role in the organizing work labor leaders like Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta did to protect the rights of farm workers. Congresswoman Lee is proud to have the support of Huerta in her campaign for U.S. Senate, and during the Forty Acres tour, the Congresswoman will discuss her work to protect and champion worker’s rights throughout her career.
