California State Treasurer Fiona Ma, CPA endorses Congresswoman Barbara Lee for U.S. Senate

Lee adds barrier-breaker Ma to her growing list of high-profile Democratic endorsers

SACRAMENTO, CA – Today, Congresswoman and U.S. Senate candidate Barbara Lee announced that her campaign has been endorsed by California State Treasurer Fiona Ma, CPA.

Ma, who previously served on the California Board of Equalization, made history when she was elected and re-elected as the first AAPI woman and first woman of color to serve as California State Treasurer. Prior to her roles as Treasurer and on the Board of Equalization, Ma served as Speaker pro Tempore of the California Assembly where she was the first AAPI woman to hold the Assembly’s second highest office.

Ma’s highly sought endorsement comes just days after the endorsement by progressive leader Congressman Ro Khanna, unveiled by Lee’s campaign earlier this week.

“Barbara is the experienced, progressive leader California needs now. She doesn’t just talk about getting results and delivering change, she actually does it and she has the record to back it up,” said Ma. “And, as a Black woman, she’s bringing a critical, missing voice to the Senate. It’s time all our voices are heard, and voters can trust that Barbara will give us all a seat at the table. It is my honor to endorse Barbara Lee for U.S. Senate.”

“I’m so grateful for and humbled by Treasurer Ma’s trust in my campaign,” said Lee. “Voters have my word that I will work every day in the U.S. Senate to be a voice for the voiceless and that I will use my lived experience as a Black woman to deliver real, progressive change that Californians and the country can count on. It’s what I’ve done my entire career and it’s what I’ll keep doing in the Senate.”

Lee enters the race for U.S. Senate with a long and growing list of supporters, including Attorney General Rob Bonta, Controller Malia Cohen, State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond, State Senators Anna Caballero and Nancy Skinner, Assemblymembers Mia Bonta and Corey Jackson, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, San Francisco Mayor London Breed, Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao, San Bernardino Mayor Helen Tran, Redlands Mayor Eddie Tejeda, Rialto Mayor Deborah Robertson, former Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf, Palm Desert Mayor Pro Tem Karina Quintanilla, Dolores Huerta, California Democratic Party Asian Pacific Islander Caucus Chair Deepa Sharma, and California Democratic Party Progressive Caucus Chair Amar Shergill, and California Democratic Party LGBTQ Caucus Co-Chair Tiffany Woods.
